Public releases, and the beta builds tested before them.
Faster camera cards, only the metadata the app uses, and corrected photo times
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
09:53 A new camera card is read several times faster (a card of 4,000 Lumix photos in about a minute and a half instead of several minutes), and while it is read the New drive window shows a count of what is on it, by kind of file, opening out only when everything is known. Media Organizer now reads and keeps only the metadata it uses, which makes your library smaller and quicker to browse; View metadata's Read all values from the file shows the rest. Recording times now come only from the files' own metadata: photos that showed their time two or three hours early are corrected by a one-time activity at the next start, without reading your drives.
19:14 Copying between drives reads the next part of a file while writing the last one, and finishes each file while the next one copies, so both drives work at once. A large copy no longer spends a long time after its last file looking at every folder and file again: each file is catalogued as it is copied, and each folder once its last file is in. A copy whose metadata cannot be read is still copied, and is listed under the copy's problems so it can be read again.
Card files filed straight into your folders; edit packs and labels; recording date in DaVinci Resolve; Settings set out in four groups
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
09:45 A camera card's files go straight into your folder structure under their own names, no longer inside the card's own folders; when a different file already has a name there, the new one is numbered, such as C0001 (2).MP4, with the files that come with it numbered the same. Until you choose a structure, Media Organizer uses the recommended one, year, day, camera and card name, with nothing to set up first. Settings › Camera cards says what happens when a name is taken and warns when your structure has no day, camera or card name level. Copies made to prepare an edit go into the same structure.
17:25 Media Organizer's editing projects are now called edit packs, so "project" always means the project in your video editor, and a drive's or card's name is called its label, as in Card label and Change label….
18:46 DaVinci Resolve gets each clip's recording date in Date Recorded, also through the metadata file for the free Resolve. Camera, scene, take and recording date are filled in only where a clip has none, so what you type in Resolve stays, and a clip you moved to another bin is found there instead of being imported again.
20:10 Settings is set out in four groups of pages, each answering one question: Copies of your footage asks how many copies you want as the first start does, with More for up to 9, and says how many files fall short; Drives shows each drive's folders of footage, whether footage can be stored there and whether it is fast enough to edit from, and Change label…; a drive you edit from always stores footage, and camera cards are no longer listed there; the base folder on Folders on your drives cannot change once footage is filed in it; Camera names and Camera settings take over from the Cameras window, and Camera settings lists only the cameras with something to set. Explanation notes across the app are amber, with Don't show this again on the right.
A first-time setup, a tour of the main window, one card window at a time, a clearer Activity bar, videos that play in the Details pane and retiring a drive
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
00:12 The picture at the top of the Details pane grows as you drag the pane wider, and Media Organizer keeps the widths of the Details pane and the Library for the next time.
08:25 The first time you open Media Organizer, a short setup in two steps comes first: how many copies of your footage you want, then which of your drives hold footage you already have and which can store new footage, each with a name you write on the drive; nothing is added or read until you press Done, and you can leave and pick up where you stopped. A tour then shows the main window, and opens again from Help > Tour of the main window. Your first editing project asks which drives are fast enough to edit from. Projects are now called editing projects.
09:12 Card windows open one at a time. When several cards wait, the card window lists them all at its top, each with what is left to do: click one to work on it first, close the window to go on to the next, or choose Not now to leave the rest for later.
09:17 The bar at the bottom of the window is named Activity. It gives a line to each copy, scan or other work you started, and to each one waiting for a drive, with the drive to connect in red and the drives you can unplug; a last line says how much is up next and that Media Organizer is updating the library, each opening its list, with a ? that explains it. Work not started yet has its own Up next list. When a drive is disconnected while Media Organizer was reading it on its own, that work ends as done rather than waiting, and starts again the next time the drive is connected.
09:32 Videos play in the Details pane: click Play on the picture or press Space, with 360 recordings shown in the 360 view, using the TLW 360 viewer that comes with Two Left Wheels 360. Open larger plays the video in the viewer's own window, a handle under the picture makes it taller, and a copy on a connected drive plays when the file's own drive is away. Without Two Left Wheels 360 the video opens in Windows' own app.
09:54 Marking a drive as Media Organizer storage, wherever you do it, reads the MediaOrganizer folder it already has from copies made before, so what that folder holds is in your library.
10:35 Insta360 X6 recordings show the panorama the camera stores inside the file as their thumbnail, as X4 and X5 recordings do.
11:29 An organised Insta360 recording starts playing in the Details pane on its camera proxy, which can also be chosen in the player's picture size list, and Play widens a narrow Details pane so the player's controls fit.
13:36 Retire drive… in a drive's menu in the Library, and Tools > Retire a drive…, copy everything on a drive you want to stop using to your other drives: say whether you want it for something else, it is failing, or it is lost, and the plan reads it accordingly, a failing drive only for files no other drive has, then says when the drive can be removed. Plan remaining copies now puts copies into your library's folders, numbered when a name is already taken, instead of Copies folders. Copy rows in Activity name the drive they copy from and the one they copy to, and while a copy waits for a drive the bar names, on one line, each drive you can unplug, with a button to eject it.
16:36 Retiring a failing drive reads each file only it holds once: its other copies are made from the first copy, in a step that waits for it and does not need the failing drive. Plan remaining copies and Retire are now one row in Activity, named for what you started, with an arrow that shows each copy under it; collapsed, it still says which drive to connect, and its Pause, Resume and Cancel act on every copy. Large copies no longer slow to a crawl.
Edit folders for your projects
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
17:50 Each project gets an edit folder, by default in an Editing folder in your Videos folder: open it in your editor, and its Media folder holds the project's files under their permanent names. Set where you keep your edits in Settings › Projects, or put one project elsewhere with Change… in its Edit window before preparing it. DaVinci Resolve imports the files from the edit folder and keeps media it makes for the project there, and Add to the open DaVinci Resolve project puts a project's files into a Resolve project you made yourself.
18:20 With the free DaVinci Resolve, Create in DaVinci Resolve answers at once with the steps to follow instead of waiting for Resolve, and the project's edit folder holds a metadata file that gives every clip its camera, scene and take through Resolve's File > Import Metadata.
19:45 Media Organizer runs the Two Left Wheels 360 converter under its new name; a converter folder holding an older Two Left Wheels 360 package now says so and asks for a current one.
20:20 Preparing a project copies a file that is only on a slower drive into your library on a drive fast enough to edit from, in the same folders your camera cards use, where it counts as one of the file's copies; a second project that needs the same file uses that copy. Creating a project no longer needs a copies folder, which is now only where converted files go.
21:50 The Cameras window offers Edit natively with Two Left Wheels 360 for Insta360 X-series cameras: a prepared project then shows its 360 recordings in the edit folder's 360 folder as files you edit as they are, with a 360 settings button in the project's Edit window. It needs a Two Left Wheels 360 with the new command interface, which is coming; until then preparing such recordings says so.
Plain answers on camera cards, copies instead of backups, and Media Organizer storage
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
12:16 The camera card window says formatting only when a card is safe to format, and opens without waiting while files are still only on the card. A card with everything in storage says so in a large panel, green when it is safe to format, and shows the drives and folders that hold its files; when some files have fewer copies than you asked for, Plan remaining copies plans them from your drives, without the card. While a card is read the window already has its final shape. Slate and tags shows a row only for the values your folders need, the others one click away. The card window stays on the screen as it grows. Copies are never called backups: Tools › Plan remaining copies… and Tools › Missing copies, Settings › Copies with "Keep each file on 2 drives", drives marked Use for copies, and new runs in folders named Copies.
15:46 Copies count only on drives marked Media Organizer storage, and a drive you add is marked unless you untick it. Plan remaining copies fills your storage drives the way your card policy fills drives, and opens with one coloured answer at the top: what Run will do, or why some files cannot get their copies and which storage drive to tick, with a button that ticks it. Its columns read Copy the files from and Copy to.
18:51 A Sony clip that does not carry its camera's serial number takes it from the photos on the same card, so a card from one Sony camera is filed under that one camera.
A camera card window with a Slate table, tags you can take off, and card copies that start at once
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
00:11 Slate and tags in the camera card window is a table with a row for every value (Camera, Shoot, Scene, Shot, Take, Roll): needed or optional, how many of the recordings being copied have none, and a box for those, or a dash when all have one. One button opens the recordings in the browser to set or review them one by one. Tags show their kind, are added with Add, and a tag some recordings already have can be taken off them at Run. Pick lists open with a button and stay open, explanations are behind a ? button, the question about missing values shows one short row per value, a camera card is read at once even while other drives are scanned, and copying a card into folders that do not exist yet no longer fails with 'the selected folder is unavailable'.
08:38 Activity's In progress shows only work under way; problems to review are under Needs review, newest first, with Mark all reviewed. Browse appears once an activity has ended. A scan's problems say how many of each kind there are, what is missing on each file and what to do. A copy goes on past a file it cannot copy, lists it with why, and Resume copies it later. A change to the card folders that copies in progress hold back names those copies and offers to cancel them and save. The app's own folder on every library drive is scanned, so copies made there count. Leaving the camera name empty clears it.
15:40 A camera card is taken in whole again: a script or note on the card is listed, copied and counted for safe to format, and the card window lists such files in a row called No camera. An Insta360 card names its camera from the card's own file list, also on a full card, and a camera model this version does not know yet is marked not yet supported, with what that means. A Nikon N-RAW proxy goes with its clip, AVCHD index files stay out of the library, and a phone's voice memo is audio rather than a problem.
16:10 Needs review lists only what still needs you: a scan whose problems a later scan has looked at again, or that was done again and finished, reads as plain Done; sidecar files such as subtitles and photo notes are no longer reported as missing metadata; the red Needs review button is on an activity only while it needs review, and Details shows the problems of the others. Mark all reviewed is gone. A removal that keeps failing is no longer queued again while one waits for review.
16:19 A Sony clip's thumbnail and proxy count with the clip in the camera card window, not as recordings of their own, and a Sony a6700 clip gets its camera serial from the clip's own file. An Insta360 card shows one camera, Insta360 X4, whichever of its two maker names the files carry, and a video exported by Insta360's app no longer makes a camera called ".project". A camera name box opened with its button lists every offered name, whatever it already holds. A file with no date on the card (such as a Sony card's index file) copies without failing.
17:50 Error messages say only what went wrong. Suggest copies closes once Run has started the copies, and so does a camera card window after Make the missing copies. An open card window follows copies made elsewhere, so its heading stays right. Giving a card the name of one used before asks in plain words, with Replace or It's another card, and says when the old files are all still on the card. Clearing a camera name the camera itself gives says why it stays. A card's copy is named by card and drive (SD SONY → WD 6) in Activity and Settings. A file on a card whose copies have a different date is found by its contents. The Slate button no longer runs past the window edge, and the folder help names Scene, Shot, Take and Roll.
19:59 Work the app does for its own upkeep is named Library maintenance with a code, such as M4, that you can quote to support, and every activity's details show its ID. An error inside the app says so plainly, and a scan or a removal that needs review can be done again with Scan again or Try again. A drive that stopped answering during a scan is named in one line with what to do, and a scan that read nothing says it stopped. A file the app cannot fully read but that is not damaged is no longer a problem to review; a Remove extra copies run that left files in place offers Plan again.
20:25 Review files in the Preparation window opens again. Naming cameras, setting recording values and tagging no longer make the backup check read the whole library again, so a card's Run and the windows after it answer sooner, and Activity no longer checks every second which recordings can be repaired. A script or note on a camera card reads as not media in What to copy.
A simpler camera card window that chooses the drives for you, and moved files that keep their tags
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
08:18 The camera card window opens to a short view: it says what is new, picks the drives from a policy you set once (how many copies, filling the drives with most free space, in your order, or always the same drives), and you press Run. It offers to split a card across drives when none holds it whole, asks a name only for a camera it has never seen, shows only the slate fields your folders need with More for the rest, and keeps the other choices under Options. Change drives works in place in the first panel.
09:40 Closing Media Organizer no longer hangs on Closing while a drive scan is stuck: every window, card windows included, closes at once, and only a copy or move in progress is let finish first.
12:24 One number of copies for every file, which camera cards follow too. A card whose files are all in storage shows only how it stands: safe to format with its copies, or not safe yet with Make the missing copies. Where camera cards go lists every drive with its free space and whether it is connected, to tick and order, and is also in Settings → Camera cards. The card window says it is reading the card from the moment it opens, its camera numbers agree, More in Slate and tags opens, and the first panel always says what is new on the card.
13:41 Camera cards no longer ask where they go: until you choose in Settings → Camera cards, the drives with most free space are used and the card window says so. The card window counts recordings in its heading, Slate and tags counts the recordings being copied and shows every field when none is needed, support files show as icons as in the library, and camera housekeeping files are explained.
14:46 Run is no longer held back when recordings lack a value your folders use: it asks first, shows how many recordings lack each value with an example of where they would go, and Copy anyway puts them in a folder such as No camera. Don't ask again keeps that answer, also in Settings → Camera cards. Run also no longer closes the card window as if it had copied while its plan is being made again.
17:31 Scans of large folders no longer stand still for minutes and no longer stop on a timed-out name pattern. Files moved to other folders on the same drive keep their tags, projects and metadata even when the scan that found them was interrupted, and files marked missing come back when they turn up; renamed files are recognised once their content fingerprint is made. Remove from the library offers to move a missing file's tags, projects and fields to the same file elsewhere on the drive.
Recording fields, shared ingestion folders, unified camera rules and choosing what to copy from mixed cards
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged, in local time.
10:24 View and edit Scene, Role and Take in the main browser and camera-card file review. Keep individual values, clear them, or restore camera-module values; corrections survive rescanning and copying.
11:10 Organize ingestion folders by Scene, Role and Take, with links to fill missing values in the browser. Folder setup is saved once, including a choice with no optional levels; tags stay separate from folder paths.
12:02 Choose a shared base folder for card media and preserved contents. Recognized cards show a simpler view; optional tags stay collapsed, damage questions appear only when relevant, and every destination shows space before selection.
13:55 Card recognition, housekeeping and recording companions use the same manufacturer rules. Declared companions stay together across card folders; mixed cards keep their own file metadata. Local camera overrides also govern repair and export support, and Supporting files opens their browser view.
16:27 On a card with files from several cameras or rearranged folders, tick what to copy by folder and type, or recording by recording; previews and sidecars stay with their recording, and only what is ticked is copied.
17:13 Insta360 X4 cards: the recovery files in MISC and the working files an interrupted recording leaves beside its preview are listed as camera housekeeping, not as previews or unknown files.
19:29 Cards with files from several cameras start with only the new recordings ticked and show what is new and what is copied on each line; the heading says whether the card is safe to format. Slate and tags sets Camera, Shoot, Scene, Roll and tags for all recordings at once, with a link to set them one by one. The recording field Role is now Roll, Shot is new, and the card window remembers which parts you leave open for each camera model.
20:27 The card window starts with Copy to selected drives. A new choice there, on by default, decides whether a copy on any drive counts as copied or only one on the drives you chose. Clicking a line's tick now moves from new only to all, to none, and back.
Camera metadata, card preservation and explicit ingestion destinations
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
17:14 Local AI agents can preview how manufacturer, series and model rules interpret a scanned card, see which files supplied each value, and try custom rules without changing the library.
18:03 Camera-card metadata follows manufacturer rules, can use older files on a conforming card, explains its sources in Metadata, and stays with verified copies.
18:27 Returning from a card's file review keeps pending camera names and no longer crashes when the camera list refreshes.
19:25 Card imports preserve remaining card files and an inventory on receiving drives, reuse unchanged content from earlier ingestions, and report preservation failures for retry.
21:04 Card ingestion copies to every drive you select using one folder structure set in Settings; copies elsewhere do not replace the intended destination, and filename conflicts offer skip or keep both after other copies finish.
21:22 Folder settings can be saved when an older copy has stopped with an error; the settings explain that ingestion folders start at each selected drive's root.
Lost recordings kept safe; cards copied to a drive count as backups
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
00:00 A preview whose video is gone from every drive is marked "recording lost" and Review backups protects it like the recording; a preview copied next to its video joins it; a camera card copied whole onto a drive counts as a backup; and a request to the running app that fails says why.
Right-clicking a folder acts on that folder; one filter bar with the same way out everywhere; renamed copies count; remove extra copies; backups planned and tidied across all your drives
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
06:20 Right-clicking a folder in the Library pane opens that folder's menu. Before, the menu acted on the folder's whole drive, so Exclude from library, Scan and the other commands offered the drive instead of the folder.
07:01 Whenever the list shows only some files, a bar at the top of the list says why, starting with "Filter:" (a search, filters, a drive's missing files, a scan or project opened from elsewhere, Review duplicates, Review backups), and Clear search & filters on its right always shows every file of the drive or folder you are in again. Review backups keeps its buttons on a second line of that bar. The line across the top of the window and the separate clear buttons are gone.
07:43 In a camera card's window, a camera's number of files in the Cameras list is a link, and so are the links above the Files list (all recordings, or those only on the card). Each opens those files in a window with the same file list as the main window, where you can look at them and add tags or set the camera name before the card is copied; Done takes you back. A Shoot, Location, Scene, Take or Roll tag a file already has is kept: the card window's box for that kind goes only on files that have none.
07:58 With content fingerprints on, a copy you renamed counts as a copy: for your backups, for a camera card's files and for a card being safe to format. On a card, only the files no drive holds under the same name are fingerprinted.
08:55 Tools > Remove extra copies finds recordings a drive holds more than once and keeps one copy per drive; the others move into a folder at the drive's root for you to delete, and a notice at startup says how much space they take.
09:43 Remove extra copies asks by folder: recordings whose copies are in the same folders are one question (which folder's copies stay), however many there are.
10:11 Cards already in the reader when Media Organizer starts no longer open their windows while they are being read. Once a card has been read, its window opens only if files are still only on that card, showing the result. A card whose files are all copied no longer opens its window just to ask for a camera name; that question waits in the window, opened from the card's right-click menu. A card you insert still opens its window at once.
10:17 Remove extra copies goes one step at a time: the drives, then each question on its own page with its files to look at, then what was decided for you and a summary before Run.
10:56 A card window that opens by itself when Media Organizer starts now appears only when it is complete: its cameras, files, whether the card is safe to format and the plan for the copies are already worked out, so nothing fills in while you look at it.
11:13 Remove extra copies asks far fewer questions: it looks only at recordings and their companion files, leaves a photo's info file with its own photo, and keeps the original name over a copy's (clip.mp4 over clip (1).mp4). Each question can also move all the copies aside. What the tool does is explained in a box you can hide, and looking at files no longer opens a camera card's window.
11:42 Remove extra copies also finds duplicate music. Closing Media Organizer while something is running now says at once that it is closing, and the window closes by itself when the work has stopped.
12:28 Music is taken in wherever it is on a drive, like footage, not only when it sits next to a video, photo or recording. The next scan of each drive brings its music in.
12:37 In a camera card's window, the camera name you type for recordings that report no camera now goes only on the recordings not copied yet, which carry it into their copies. Recordings copied earlier keep what they have, and the box is offered only when such a recording is still to be copied.
13:41 Fixed: while a scan was reading files, the file list could show the error "Could not refresh the Media view" and then repeat it on every click until Media Organizer was restarted. A file that came back twice while the list was loading is now listed once.
14:20 The Activity panel's buttons and Browse menu respond while other work runs. Thumbnails sit in wide cells instead of square ones. Every window has a Help button, and every window says what went wrong in the same red box above its buttons. The toolbar, search bar, Library and details panel stay as you left them the next time you start. Settings explains what the Media Manager drive is for.
15:38 Media Organizer keeps a log of what it does and of anything that goes wrong. Help > Save diagnostic report packs it into one file you can send when something goes wrong, and Settings > General > Detailed logging adds more detail while chasing a problem.
16:15 Fixed: Run in Suggested copies could close Media Organizer when two recordings shared a file (for example an info file two cameras wrote at the same second). Such a file is copied once, and if Run ever fails the window says so instead of closing.
18:10 Suggest copies plans across all your drives, connected or not; copies for a drive that is not plugged in wait for it, and the bar at the bottom of the window says which drives to connect, which to keep connected and which you can unplug. Remove extra copies also brings recordings your drives hold more often than your backup rule asks down to that number, freeing the fullest drives and leaving working copies on editing drives alone. Copies now keep a hash of the bytes they sent, so a later check that two files are identical need not read them again.
18:37 Exports you renamed are suggested as copies of their recording by recording time and length, as well as by name: an Insta360 export that starts within two seconds of a clip and is no longer than it, with the same clip number.
19:17 Insta360 exports that have their recording's name and also start and last the same are confirmed as its copy by themselves; the few left in Exports to confirm are shown side by side with the recording, with thumbnails, the differing part of the names marked and the start, length and clip number compared, and either file can be played from there. A drive you can unplug can be ejected from the bar at the bottom of the window.
19:49 Fixed: export pairs from two cameras that recorded at the same moment are confirmed automatically too, and a phone clip filmed at the same time is no longer suggested as an export.
Copy a card to where you edit, in folders built from your tags; copies only to the drives you choose for backups; optional content fingerprints
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
08:24 A camera card can be copied to where you edit as well as backed up: its window offers a working copy in a folder you choose, plus the backups your rule asks for. Shoot, Location and Roll each have a box where you pick a tag or type a new one. Show plan… is where the destination is decided: the working folder, the folders the copies are filed under (built from the shoot, location, recording day, camera and more, in your order, then the card's name), and the backup drives. The folders you choose are proposed for every card, and a card is not imported into folders it cannot fill. Settings, Drives lists your working folders.
09:30 Copying a card to where you edit now takes only the recordings that are not on any drive yet; a recording you copied earlier is not copied to the working folder again, and still gets the backup it lacks. The plan window keeps its parts apart at its normal size however many drives you have, with the drive list scrolling inside its panel, and when opened for a card it lists only that card on the left.
11:11 Every card window now has the same form: its heading says how many files are still only on the card, and the tags you give go on the files this run copies, which their copies on your drives carry; files copied earlier are not tagged. New copies go only to the drives you mark Use for backups, while a copy already on any of your drives still counts; the choice of which drives count is gone from Settings. Working folders are on drives marked Suitable for editing: Add a working folder… in the plan window takes any folder, adds it to the library and marks its drive after asking once, and says under the row why a folder is refused. The destination folders read as a path, each level with its own arrows and cross, with an example of where a file will go, and changing them no longer waits for the whole library. The plan window offers your other connected drives for backups. A new drive is asked whether it is used for backups and suitable for editing, and a folder you add on an editing drive can be made a working folder.
12:54 A file on a card that has no camera, such as a note or a script you keep there, no longer blocks the import: when Camera is one of the folders it goes into a folder called No camera, a file with no recording time is filed under the date of the file, and the Cameras part of the card's window lists such files. Recordings that carry no camera name have a box there to name it. Show plan… opens at once with the plan the card's window already made and has OK and Cancel: OK brings your choices back, and Run is in the card's window. The plan window says when it is working out the copies and why a plan is empty, its Refresh button is named, its controls have tooltips, and the explanation line at its top is gone. Adding a working folder on a new drive no longer asks about backups, paths are spaced the same everywhere, and Tags, Damaged recordings and Workflow sit in boxes like the parts above them.
13:56 A card's window copies only the recordings that are not on any drive yet, with or without a working copy; recordings of the card that were copied earlier and still need another copy are counted in one line that points to Review backups, Suggest copies, and tags go only on what is copied now. The recording date can be a folder level in the usual forms (YYYY, YY, MM, DD, YYYY-MM, YYYY-MM-DD, YYYYMMDD, YYMMDD), named by their form, with short names such as Rec YYYY-MM-DD on the buttons in the path; the structure you had chosen is kept. The Left out line in a card's window opens to list the files that were left out, with their folder and size.
14:34 In a card's window the line under the Workflow choice names only the drives the copies go to. Under the count of files copied earlier that still need copies, a note says how to make those copies, with a Don't show this again tick. The Files line says why a card is not safe to format, for example "not safe to format: 128 files need more copies".
14:53 In the Library panel a camera card has an SD-card icon that says whether the card can be formatted: green with a tick when it is safe, yellow with an exclamation mark when files still need more copies, orange when files exist only on the card, and grey with dots while your backups are being checked; solid while the card is connected, an outline while it is away. Hovering over a card says the same in words, and hovering over a drive says what it is for: used for backups, suitable for editing, and its working folders.
15:54 A copy of a file from a camera card stays in the library on any drive, whatever its type, so a script or note kept on a card no longer leaves the card showing a file that was never copied. Checking the backups is done once and reused until the library changes, so the plan window, a card's window and the card icons answer sooner. New copies always go into the run's own Backup folder; the choice of the same folder path on the other drive is gone from Settings.
16:36 On Panasonic and Sony cards the camera's own files stay out of the library and are no longer copied: a Panasonic's PANA_GRP folder, a Sony's database, and the thumbnail index of an AVCHD card. Sony clips named by date and title, and clips in a subfolder of CLIP, are recognised as the camera's recordings.
17:13 A card's window now copies a recording you copied earlier without one of its files, for example a Sony clip copied without the small XML file beside it. Before, that file was counted as only on the card and nothing was offered to copy it.
17:49 A scan that read every folder of a drive or card now clears the files it no longer finds, even when some file's details could not be read. Before, one such file kept every removed or renamed file of that drive in the library, and a card whose files were renamed showed files only on the card that did not exist. The scan still asks for review of the files it could not read.
19:21 The line under a drive that counted the files left out is gone; the same review opens from Files left out… on the drive's right-click menu. The "2 missing" under a drive is a link that lists those files, and Missing files is a filter of the file list. Remove from the library, next to Delete, removes the library's records of selected files that are no longer on their drive, after one confirmation; files still there are skipped and nothing on any drive is changed.
19:58 Settings > Drives has a new option, off by default: fingerprint file contents in the background, so files with the same contents can be recognised under different names. It runs as Fingerprint files in the Activity panel, one drive at a time.
20:04 In a camera card's window the Cameras, Files and Left out lists sort when you click a column heading, and again for the opposite order. Left out is the same kind of list as the other two, with each file's size and why it was left out.
20:24 Fingerprint files covers storage drives only; camera cards are left out.
One window per camera card, which can back the card up to your drives; questions only for cards; copies only between connected drives
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
09:38 The New footage found window, which asks for camera names and tags, opens only after a camera card is scanned; scanning a storage drive no longer asks.
11:58 Suggested copies read a file from a drive rather than a camera card when both hold it and both are connected.
15:59 A camera card has one window: it shows the card being read, then asks for camera names, tags, repairs and the workflow, and Run starts the copy. Camera housekeeping files and zero-size recordings stay out of the library, a card's recordings are listed per camera with their recording days, files that exist only on a card are named as such, and a card with no label can be named.
16:51 A card's window opens every time the card is inserted. A camera whose photos do not report its serial number is listed as one camera. The Left out line says what was left out and why, and the log an Insta360 writes on its card is left out. The New drive window shows the drive, the question and the name on one line, can be resized, and has Help.
17:22 A USB stick or card that stores its name in capitals can be added: the library shows the name as the drive stores it, and a name too long for the drive is refused with the limit. A failure in the New drive window and the card window is shown in a red box above the buttons. Each choice of what to take in from a drive explains itself in the list.
18:17 An external hard drive or SSD can be named and renamed even though Windows does not let its label be changed: the name is kept in a small hidden file on the drive. A drive you add yourself is asked for its name, like an inserted one. The card window is as tall as what it shows, and with no workflow yet it points to New…. A button that cannot be used is grey. Drives in the Library no longer say "Problems to review"; the Activity panel's Needs review button stands out instead.
18:33 Explanations in tooltips wrap into a compact block instead of one long line; file paths in tooltips stay on one line.
19:38 A camera card can be backed up without a workflow: in the card's window, Back up to my drives copies it to as many connected backup drives as your backup rule asks for, says what goes where, and names the drive to connect when the connected ones are not enough. Suggested copies are planned only between connected drives, so they start at once; a drive that is not connected is listed but cannot be ticked, the plan says which drives to connect for the rest, and a drive you connect while the window is open is ticked by itself.
21:31 Your backup rule now counts copies, and every kind of file is kept in at least one: in Settings, Backups, Copies required goes from 1 to 9, with the file itself as one of the copies (2 means the file and one backup). Other files, which could be set to 0 before, now have at least 1, so everything taken in from a card is copied before the card is called safe to format.
Companion files, scan filters, recordings kept together, a tidier browser and repair of cut-off recordings
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
07:34 Companion files are defined for each camera family, with switches for which ones travel with their recordings.
09:26 Scan filters choose what a scan takes in, with a review of what was left out and one list of files that are never media.
10:43 Files that belong together are recorded once and kept that way: a scan puts each recording with its proxy and sidecars, a proxy whose main file is gone stays listed on its own, and improved camera rules no longer regroup what you already have. Your existing library is grouped once in the background.
12:34 Copies of your files on other drives are recognised, even ones made before you installed Media Organizer, and kept with their recording; when a copy is missing its proxy or telemetry, suggested copies add just those files next to it.
13:17 The browser lists each recording once per folder, with small icons for its proxy, thumbnail and logs and for how many other drives hold it; a proxy or sidecar whose clip is missing is marked, and View > Show all files lists everything.
14:18 Opening a large drive in the browser no longer waits minutes while your library is being grouped in the background, and the window closes promptly again.
17:04 Ordinary MP4 videos are no longer marked “main file missing” (your library is regrouped once in the background); music and voice notes no longer count as problems, so a scanned drive reads as fully scanned; you mark problems reviewed at the end of their list; tips show each file on one line with where it is, and say which files a copy is missing; double-click plays a file and right-click offers Open and Open with; the list view is gone; Review duplicates and Review backups sit under your drives; and the left-out review shows the files behind each line.
18:30 Insta360 X4 recordings cut off by a flat battery or a crash can be repaired: select them and choose Repair…, and a repaired copy is written next to each, with its proxy and sidecars, while the original stays untouched; on a camera card the repair happens after the card is copied off.
19:21 Scans look for damaged recordings only once you tick Check camera recordings for damage when scanning (Settings, Drives), so you can put your library in order first; after a drive scan no repair window opens by itself: the scan's Problems in the Activity panel offer Repair…, as does a repair that could not fix a file.
21:18 A copy the app makes shows its original's recording time, camera, your corrections and thumbnail as soon as it is copied, without its metadata being read again, so copying a card or running a workflow finishes sooner.
22:39 Repair finds a working reference recording anywhere in your library, not only in the damaged file's folder; the Repair dialog opens at once and, only when no recording works for a file, says why for each one it tried and lets you pick one.
23:28 In the browser, a + before a recording's name lists its proxy and sidecars under it; sizes read as MB or GB, with the exact bytes when you hover; the copies tip says which kinds of file a copy is missing (for example missing: LRV, SRT); the Details pane lists a recording's files in this folder once each, with copies only under Copies; and errors appear in a bar at the top of the window that you can dismiss.
Camera cards, Suggest copies and ejecting drives
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
03:37 Suggest copies reads as a summary, with tick boxes for source and destination drives.
07:25 One Exclude from library replaces Exclude and Forget.
08:45 One window for every new drive; drives are recognised by their serial number.
09:22 A catalog from an older build is updated in place and keeps its contents.
09:32 Suggest copies opens folders to their files, and its drive panel can be resized.
10:23 Run in Suggest copies adds one copy for each pair of drives, connected or not.
10:37 Exclude from library shows a quick preview and removes the records in the background.
11:14 Copies are recognised across time zones and FAT drives; partly copied sets are completed first.
11:22 Eject a drive from the Library.
11:24 Nothing starts by itself when a drive is inserted.
11:36 Copies check their dates as precisely as the destination drive stores them.
12:30 Suggest copies lists main files, each opening to its companion files.
13:27 Mark a drive as a camera card.
14:32 A card's files that are not copied to another drive stand out.
17:40 Cards whose camera writes no serial number are recognised by their name.
19:52 Removed cards stay in the library, with when they were last seen.
20:56 Drive names are unique.
22:32 A file moved outside the app keeps its tags and history.
22:53 Files deleted from a card leave the catalog quietly; a formatted card given its old name takes its place.
23:33 Card backups go into numbered run folders; each drive says in one word how it is; missing files are shown dimmed.
The rewritten catalog, backups and Settings
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
11:24 Backups: set how many drives must hold each kind of media, Review backups, exports confirmed as copies, and Suggest copies.
12:07 Settings is one window with pages.
12:40 The rewritten catalog becomes the app.
15:57 The dark theme switch works, Settings has help, and backup wording is clearer; Show details in Review backups.
18:13 Recordings are backed up together with their companion files, and safe to format follows your backup rule.
18:55 Aligned icons in the Library; Cameras opens from Settings and is fast; scanning a drive scans only its managed folders.
19:15 Review backups lists each recording once, with its companion files.
19:44 New copies go under the app's own folder, and the plan says how much drive space to add.
A new catalog storage, built beside the app
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
11:11 Review duplicates lists the whole library again.
16:43 Work on a rewritten catalog that stores only current values, built as a separate edition beside the app (switched on 28 September).
Insta360 thumbnails
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
18:24 Insta360 files show the stitched preview the camera stores inside them.
19:58 Make thumbnails: an activity that makes thumbnails ahead of time, so they show while a drive is disconnected.
Speed, accessibility, and cards that are safe to format
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
09:29 Accessibility: right-to-left dialogs, names for screen readers, better contrast, and a Rename drive dialog.
10:53 The catalog responds faster while scans write to it.
12:17 Inserting a camera card asks about it, and folders on the card get roles.
12:52 The new-footage review chooses the camera by its serial number.
16:11 Browsing large catalogs is faster.
17:57 Safe to format: the card view says when a card's recordings are copied enough to format it.
19:03 Workflows gain a Move step, and a step can wait for the ones you choose.
19:42 Starting and closing are faster on large catalogs.
Local recording times, Insta360 conversion and a new window layout
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
07:51 Recording times are shown in the local time of the place they were recorded.
09:22 Insta360 INSV and LRV files are identified from the data inside the file.
09:28 A second window opens the catalog read-only, and the window title shows the build.
10:12 A running scan shows how many files it found, then how far metadata reading has got.
12:17 Each camera says which files belong together; DJI cameras are supported.
13:34 One definition serves the Insta360 X4 and X5; models not supported yet are shown as such.
13:58 Insta360 recordings are converted to MP4 through Two Left Wheels 360 when a project is prepared or by a workflow.
14:52 A menu bar and an icon toolbar; Add folder moves to the Library panel.
15:11 Columns resize as in Explorer, with sideways scrolling.
15:27 Problems you have reviewed stay reviewed.
17:39 Conversion works without an NVIDIA graphics card: choose automatic, NVIDIA or CPU encoding.
17:45 Scans read metadata only for the files that need it.
19:42 An old Media Manager drive process is replaced when the drive is mounted.
19:47 A running Prepare shows its count, what it is doing and how long it will take.
Cameras, faster scans and work that runs side by side
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
10:03 The editor is chosen when a project is prepared.
10:29 Clearer Activity panel.
13:21 For each camera model, choose whether Insta360 INSV files are used as they are or converted.
14:10 A busy cursor and progress bar while the browser loads.
14:43 Scans of different drives run at the same time.
16:25 The Cameras window is a resizable, sortable table and shows when each camera last recorded.
17:18 Video metadata is read faster, and large folders are scanned completely.
17:28 Two unnamed cameras of the same model are told apart by serial number.
19:31 Unrelated activities run at the same time; how many is a setting.
22:21 The app starts without waiting for catalog checks.
23:01 Drives are scanned when they are connected, scans continue where they stopped, and new footage is offered for review.
Preparing projects and the Media Manager drive
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
07:16 Preparing a project runs as an activity that survives closing the app.
07:25 Preparing has its own window, with a summary and a table of every file.
07:36 A Generic editor presents prepared files to any editor.
07:51 Resolve bins can be laid out by folder, date, camera and other levels.
08:12 Editing a project opens in its own window and says what failed.
16:49 The Media Manager drive: one read-only drive, mounted on a folder, with an icon in the notification area.
18:05 The Resolve project is brought up to date each time the project is prepared.
21:27 Scene, Take and Roll tags; scene, take, camera and start timecode are written to Resolve.
23:08 Choose how prepared files and bins are named; the choice is fixed when the project is prepared.
The starting point: catalog, browser and first projects
Beta
Each change with the time it was merged. A build made after that time includes it (the build time is in the window title).
09:58 The starting point: a catalog of drives and folders, a browser with search and tags, metadata reading and the Activity panel.
13:22 Projects: collect the recordings for an edit from the browser's menus, and mark which drives are fast enough to edit from.
16:34 A scan session is a filter: browse and tag only the files one scan found new.
16:54 Prepare for editing: a plan of what a project needs, then preparing it.
22:12 Media Organizer creates the DaVinci Resolve project, its bins and its media, and starts Resolve when it is not running.
22:52 A drive that stops responding is reported instead of stopping the app.
