Media Organizer
Every recording on every drive, found, backed up and ready to edit.
Two action cameras, a mirrorless camera, a phone, a drone, a box of memory cards and five external drives filled over the years. Somewhere on them is the clip you need, and somewhere is the only copy of a trip you never backed up. Finding either means plugging in drives one by one.
Media Organizer keeps the whole picture for you. It catalogues every card and drive you give it, remembers what is on the ones that are not connected, and tells you which recordings exist on only one drive. When you start an edit, it prepares an edit pack for DaVinci Resolve, with files named by date, time and camera, so the edit still opens months later without relinking.
- Add your drives and camera cards. Media Organizer reads what is on them without changing anything.
- Browse, search and tag your recordings, whichever drive they are on, connected or not.
- Set how many drives should hold each recording, and let Media Organizer plan the copies that are missing.
- Pick the recordings for an edit and prepare an edit pack for DaVinci Resolve from them.
Your originals are never touched
Scanning only reads. Nothing is renamed, moved or deleted unless you ask for it, and a copy is never written over an existing file. Copies keep the original created and modified dates, and Media Organizer checks them after copying. A card is never formatted by the app: it tells you when a card is safe to format, once everything on it is backed up the way you asked, and you format it in the camera.
Every drive in one place, even the ones in a drawer
Each drive gets a label, written to the drive and, if you like, on a sticker. Its files stay listed and searchable while it is disconnected, with the thumbnails already made, so you know which drive to fetch before you fetch it. Each time you copy a camera card, the library keeps what came off it, by day and card label, long after the card is formatted. Media Organizer recognises the cards of Canon, DJI, Fujifilm, GoPro, Insta360, Nikon, Panasonic and Sony cameras, knows which files belong together, such as a clip and its low-resolution proxy, and keeps them together when it copies them.
Backups you can see
Say how many drives should hold your videos, photos and audio. The library report shows every recording that falls short, and Plan remaining copies plans where they go, keeping folders together and using the room your drives have. When they don't have enough, it tells you how big a drive to add.
Edits that open months later
An edit pack collects the recordings for one edit. Preparing it gives each file a permanent name and presents all of them on one read-only drive, copying to a fast working folder only the files on drives too slow to edit from. For DaVinci Resolve, Media Organizer creates the Resolve project, sorts the clips into bins by folder, date or camera, and fills in each clip's camera, scene, take, recording date and start timecode.
Media Organizer is in development and runs on Windows. It is not available for download yet; this site describes it as it is being built.
Media Organizer is an independent product from Two Left Wheels. Camera makers and DaVinci Resolve are named only to describe compatibility. This does not imply endorsement by their owners.
