Editing pack settings
Each editing pack has its own settings for how its recordings are stitched. New… asks for them when you make an editing pack; Settings… next to the Editing pack list changes them. They apply to every recording in the editing pack. They are not baked into a file, so you can change them at any time. See How it works, in detail.
Stabilization
- Stabilization: Off, Gyro or Gyro + image refinement. Gyro steadies the picture with the camera's motion sensor and is fast. Image refinement also measures motion in the picture; it is slower and needs an NVIDIA graphics card.
- Direction: Follow the camera keeps turns as turns. Hold the starting direction keeps the view pointing the way the clip starts.
- Smoothing (seconds): longer is calmer; shorter follows turns more closely. About 1 second matches the camera makers' own stabilization.
- Keep the horizon level: the horizon stays straight however the camera leans. Cleared, the picture leans with the camera.
Image
- Match the colour of the two lenses and Strength (%): see Lens colour matching.
- Middle of the picture: what sits in the middle of the 360° picture. The camera's front is the default. The camera's screen side puts what is behind the lens you face in the middle, for example a rider filmed from the bike in front, instead of splitting it across the left and right edges. Another angle turns the picture by the Angle (degrees) below; a positive angle brings what is to the camera's right into the middle.
Editing
- Proxy quality: Fast (for editing) keeps proxy playback real time in your editor. Same as original applies every setting to the proxies as well. The picture geometry is the same either way, and full-resolution frames always use every setting.
- Prepare the audio before editing: the audio of each recording is read once when it is added, and then plays without delay in your editor.
- Make a camera proxy for recordings that came without one: when a recording's proxy file (LRV, LRF) is missing, the app makes one in the background. Cleared, such recordings are edited from their full-size files, which is slower.
- Make stitched proxies in the background: each recording's proxy is stitched once and kept as a video file, so editing starts faster after a cut or a click and leaves the graphics card to your editor. The files take disk space, about twice the camera's proxy files. Changing it asks first, and turning it off offers to keep or remove the files. See Proxies and audio.
When you change settings
The new settings take effect on the drive as soon as you click Save. The stitched proxies are made again in the background, and until then the proxies are stitched while you edit. An editor that has already shown some frames may keep showing them until it reads them again: in DaVinci Resolve, choose Playback, Delete Render Cache, All.
An editing pack's name is the name of its folder on the drive, which your editor uses, so it can be changed only while the editing pack has no recordings.
Rolling-shutter correction, which removes the wobble that fast camera motion and vibration cause, is always on.
